Zayda Miehl, Junior Pan Pacs Champion, Gives UVA Another Verbal for 2028
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has received yet another impressive verbal commitment for its Class of 2032, this time from Zayda Miehl of Salem, Oregon. Miehl, the top miler in the class, is a member of the 2026-27 U.S. National Junior Team.
She will join Skylar Zuleger, Lane Francis, Alex Siegel, Karina Plaza, Allison Kelly and Shelby Hutchinson in Charlottesville in Fall 2028.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia! I want to thank my family, friends, and teammates for supporting me through this process. I also want to thank Coach Gary, Coach Todd, and the entire UVA coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity to pursue my swim career. I lastly want to thank Coach Rick for guiding me through this process, being endlessly supportive, and helping me reach this point in my swim journey. I am thrilled to be a part of this team!! See you in a few C’Ville! GO HOOS!!”
Miehl most recently competed at Junior Pan Pac Championships where she won the 1500m free, earned silver in the 800m free and grabbed bronze in the 400m free. She finished fifth in the 1500m free and eighth in the 800m free at Summer Nationals.
Last winter, Miehl finihsed third in the 1000 free and fourth in both the 500 free and 1650 free at Juniors West before going on to secure runner-up finishes in the 1000 free and mile at NCSA Spring Championships. She trains year-round with Corvallis Aquatic Team.
Her best times include:
- 500 free – 4:46.20
- 1000 free – 9:41.16
- 1650 free – 16:08.79
Miehl’s best time in the mile would’ve ranked third on UVA’s roster last year, placed fifth at the ACC Championships and earned an invite to the NCAA Championships. She also would’ve scored in the C-final of the 500 free at the conference meet.
The Cavaliers won their seventh straight Atlantic Coast Conference title and their sixth consecutive NCAA Championship crown in 2026.
