Teagan O’Dell Earns Second Swimming World Female High School Swimmer of the Year Award
As a sophomore at Santa Margarita High, Teagan O’Dell was honored as the premier high school swimmer in the nation. A year later, she secured runnerup honors for the award. Now, as she begins her college career at Cal-Berkeley, O’Dell is once again the Swimming World Female High School Swimmer of the Year.
As the headliner for Santa Margarita’s powerful program, O’Dell capped her senior season by registering the top time in the nation in two individual events. In addition to leading the way in the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.43), O’Dell was the quickest high schooler in the country in the 200 freestyle, where she produced a best time of 1:42.91. For good measure, O’Dell ranked No. 2 in the 100 backstroke (50.82) and was No. 3 in the 50 freestyle (22.17).
Swimming World selects its annual High School Swimmer of the Year awards based on a comprehensive scoring process that rewards athletes for their national rankings, national records and for their power-points score. In the 200 IM, O’Dell’s best time from 2025 was just .05 off her high school record of 1:53.38. As a Cal Golden Bear, O’Dell will not only provide an immediate impact in individual events, but will bring versatility to the relays of Coach Dave Durden.
Behind O’Dell, there was a three-way tie for Swimmer of the Year runnerup accolades. Wawasee’s Julie Mishler (Indiana), Windermere’s Rylee Erisman (Florida) and Sacred Heart’s Charlotte Crush (Kentucky) each had a No. 1 time during the scholastic season. Mishler, who is bound for Louisville, posted a time of 21.56 in the 50 freestyle for a national high school record.
