St. Charles (Columbus) Chasing National Relay Records at Ohio State Champs (Psych Sheets)

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) will hold its championship meet this weekend and St. Charles (Columbus) is expected to threaten the scholastic record book. Earlier this season, St. Columbus set Ohio records in the 200-yard medley relay (1:27.27), 200 freestyle relay (1:19.49) and 400 freestyle relay (2:57.33), and depending on lineup decisions, national marks could be on the horizon.

The state records established by St. Charles were made possible by contributions from a combination of Austin Carpenter, Jake Lloyd, Alex Wu, Caleb Moore and Caden Mahl. In addition to pursuing a state team title, the Cardinals could challenge the national high school records in the medley relay (1:26.75) and the 200 free relay (1:19.27). The 400 freestyle relay standard sits at 2:53.81.

Wu is the top seed for the state meet in the 200 individual medley (1:48.41) while Lloyd sits atop the psych sheet in the 50 freestyle (19.83) and Carpenter, a Texas recruit, is the No. 1 seed in the 100 freestyle (43.06) and 100 breaststroke (52.97). In the 200 medley relay, St. Charles is followed by St. Xavier (Cincinnati) and St. Ignatius (Cleveland), schools who have respective entry times of 1:30.00 and 1:30.32. The potential of three sub-1:30 medley relays is a distinct possibility.
