Sprint Freestyler Andrew Malaj Selects Indiana For 2027

NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has received a verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from Nokomis, Florida native Andrew Malaj. Malaj is among the top sprint freestylers in his class.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am super thrilled to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Indiana university. I want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for all the support along my journey. I also want to thank everyone on the coaching staff at Indiana for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. GO HOOSIERS”

Malaj does his club swimming with Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team and recently placed 11th in the 200 free at Juniors East last month. Last summer, he finaled in three events at Ocala Speedo Sectionals before going on to compete at Juniors Nationals where he placed 32nd in the 100m free. He was the runner-up in the 200 free at the 2025 Florida Swimming LSC Short Course Senior Championships last March.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.86
  • 100 free – 44.87
  • 200 free – 1:36.92

Currently a junior at Sarasota High School, Malaj placed third in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 free at the 2025 Florida 4A State Championships. He raced to eighth in both the 50 free and 100 free at the state meet in 2024 during his sophomore season.

In 2025, the Hoosiers won the Big Ten Championship and placed third at the NCAA Championships.
