Psych Sheets Out for Winter Nationals; Dressel, Margalis, Shields, Weir to Compete

The psych sheets have been released for USA Swimming’s Winter Nationals, scheduled for this coming weekend, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, at Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta. Three American Olympians from 2016 and two more from 2012 are among those on the list of attendees.

Caeleb Dressel will return to the scene of his breakout performance at the men’s NCAA championships this past March, where he shared swimmer of the meet honors, and he will be joined by his fellow Rio Olympians Melanie MargalisTom Shields and Amanda Weir. All fourwon relay medals this summer, and Dressel (100 free), Margalis (200 IM) and Shields (100 fly) each swam in an individual final.

Dressel is entered in the 200 IM, 50 free, 100 free, 100 breast and 100 free, while Weir will swim the 50, 100 and 200 free and Shields the 50 free, 100 fly and 100 back.

Breeja Larson, a 2012 Olympic finalist in the 100 breast, will be in town to swim the 100 and 200 breast, and fellow London Olympian Claire Donahue will swim the 50 free and 100 fly.

Arkady Vyatchanin, a 2008 bronze medalist in both the 100 and 200 back, will swim in Atlanta after missing out on the Rio Olympics this summer when FINA would not allow the former Russian national to compete for adopted country Serbia.

Collegians from Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio State, Minnesota and other programs will also be on deck.

Sheilds, Brea Larsen, and Weir should all retire. All had great careers but at some point, you’ve got to move on.

As an aside, why are the 3 aforementioned going to Nationals a few days prior to sc worlds?
