Princeton Lands 2028 Verbal Commitment From California Sprinter Clara Young

NEW COMMIT: Princeton University has earned its first public verbal commitment* for Fall 2028 from Clara Young of Redwood City, Calif. Young is a Summer Nationals qualifier who excels in sprint free and sprint fly.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University to continue my academic and athletic career! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their endless support and belief in me. A special thank you to Coach Abby and the entire Princeton coaching staff for this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to begin this next chapter. Go Tigers! 🐅🧡🖤”

Young, who does her club swimming with Ladera Oaks, finaled in the 100m free at Junior Nationals after racing the 50m free at Summer Nationals this past summer. She also notched five best times at Pacific Long Course Seniors before going on to take second in the 50m free and third in the 100m free at Walnut Speedo Sectionals.

Last winter, Young competed at Juniors West and finaled in six events at Roseville Speedo Sectionals, highlighted by a fourth-place showing in the 50 free. She then took second in the 100 free at Far Westerns in April.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.86
  • 100 free – 49.71
  • 200 free – 1:50.53
  • 50 fly – 24.89
  • 100 fly – 54.98

Currently a junior at Woodside High School, Young earned bronze in the 50 free and 100 free at the 2026 CIF State Championships. She took fifth in the 50 free at the state meet in 2025 as a freshman.

Princeton won its fourth consecutive Ivy League title in 2026.  It was also the Tigers’ 28th conference title total, which is the most of any Ivy program.

Young’s best time in the 50 free and 100 free are already fast enough to score in the B-final at last year’s conference meet, as well as the C-final in the 100 fly.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
