Penn State Splashes Into 2028 Recruiting With Verbal From European Junior Finalist Levente Varga
NEW COMMIT: Penn State University has received its first verbal commitment for its Class of 2032 from Levente Varga of Budapest, Hungary. Varga is a talented IMer and distance freestyler who will arrive in State College in Fall 2028.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to Penn State University! This dream wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me along the way. #WEARE”
Varga is a European Junior Championships finalist who most recently placed sixth in the 400m IM at that meet earlier this month. In May, he set three best times at MVM Ifjúsági Úszó Országos Bajnokság. He placed fourth in the 400m IM, sixth in the 1500m free and seventh in the 800m free at the 2025 Hungarian Youth Championships.
He trains with Kobanya Sport Club and attends school at Bessenyei Gyorgy Gimnazium.
In SCM, his best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:06.90
- 400 IM – 4:19.59
- 200 free – 1:53.33
- 400 free – 3:53.22
- 1500 free – 15:28.98
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 200 IM – 1:50.45
- 400 IM – 3:53.21
- 200 free – 1:42.09
- 500 free – 4:26.53
- 1650 free – 15:23.43
Penn State finished ninth at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Varga’s best time in the mile (converted to yards) is already fast enough to have placed 18th at the conference meet.
