Olympic Medalist Andrew Capobianco Joins Wisconsin as Assistant Diving Coach

Olympic medalist Andrew Capobianco was hired Friday as an assistant diving coach at the University of Wisconsin.

Capobianco competed for Indiana University’s powerhouse team from 2017-23. He was part of three Big Ten Championship teams and two top-four finishes at NCAAs. The three-time NCAA champion and five-time Big Ten champion was three times named the Big Ten Diver of the Year. He was a 12-time All-American in college.

Capobianco won four USA Diving national titles. He qualified for the Olympics in 2021, teaming with Michael Hixon to win silver in the 3-meter men’s synchro springboard competition. Capobianco finished 10th in individual springboard in Tokyo and 15th in 3-meter springboard at the Paris Games in 2024. He also won a bronze medal in the mixed team event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.

“Andrew knows exactly what it takes to compete — and win — at the highest level,” Wisconsin head coach Jack Brown said in a press release. “He’s been a force on the international stage for Team USA, and despite everything he’s accomplished, what stands out most is his love for coaching. He’s passionate about helping others grow and perform at their best. His energy and experience are going to take our diving program to the next level here in Madison.”

In 2024, Capobianco began coaching in the high performance program at USA Diving, based in his college home of Bloomington. He has been the head diving coach of the Johansen Diving Academy since 2022.
