Northwestern Scores First 2028 Verbal From Backstroker Anders Koschmann
NEW COMMIT: Backstroker Anders Koschmann of Superior, Colorado, has announced his verbal commitment to Northwestern University for Fall 2028. Koschmann is a Junior National qualifier who specializes in backstroke.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am extremely excited and honored to announce my commitment to Northwestern University to continue my academic and athletic career! I want to thank my family and friends, especially Coach Jen, for their gracious support and belief in me throughout my journey. I’m thankful to coach Rachel and the entire Northwestern coaching staff for this incredible opportunity. Above all, I give all glory to God; I am beyond blessed to call Northwestern home. Go ‘Cats!”
Koschmann trains year-round with Riptide Swim Team and most recently competed at Junior Nationals where he finished 13th in the 200m back. That was after he won the 400m free at Colorado Long Course Seniors and took second in the 200m back at Madison Futures. Last winter, he competed at Juniors West and placed eighth in the 200 back at Four Corner Speedo Sectionals.
His best times include:
- 50 back – 23.27
- 100 back – 49.41
- 200 back – 1:47.47
- 200 free – 1:38.66
- 200 IM – 1:53.43
Currently a junior at Fairview High School, Koschmann placed third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 back at the 2026 Colorado 5A State Championships. He finished seventh in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 IM at the state meet as a freshman in 2025.
Northwestern finished fourth at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Koschmann’s top time in the 200 back would’ve ranked fifth on the Wildcats’ roster last year.
Koschmann will be a third-generation swimmer in the Big Ten Conference: His grandfather swam at Minnesota and his mother swam at Wisconsin.
