New Book ‘Get Going! With Competitive Swimming’ Offers Insights for All Ages
Just in time for the next swim season, author Mike O’Hare is set to launch “Get Going! With Competitive Swimming” — a visual, technique-packed book now available for pre-order, with shipping set to begin May 29.
About the Book
Written for swimmers ages 9–18 (and the parents and coaches who support them), the book breaks down modern techniques for all four strokes, starts, turns, and finishes — with over 150 illustrations to bring each concept to life. It also explores racing strategy, mental preparation, goal setting, and how to treat others with respect in and out of the pool. Whether new to competitive swimming or refining technique as a high school athlete, Get Going! With Competitive Swimming provides a practical, visual guide swimmers and coaches can return to time and again.
Author’s Inspiration
As a Navy veteran, lifelong swimmer, and former coach, Mike O’Hare was searching for a fun, visual guide to share with his son, only to find that resources designed for youth swimmers were scarce. Inspired to help other young swimmers thrive, he wrote Get Going! With Competitive Swimming. “I set out to create the kind of book I wish I had starting out — clear, visual, and genuinely useful. It’s meant to allow swimmers to take more ownership of their development,” said O’Hare.
Community Praise
“This work is a must-have for a variety of individuals involved in the sport of swimming,” said John Lohn, Editor-in-Chief of Swimming World Magazine. “Its organized approach, complete with detailed images, will enable swimmers to take the next step in their swimming careers.”
What’s Ahead
Early copies have been praised by respected coaches, including Olympic-level mentors and national championship team leaders. A coach’s edition and companion poster set are also in development.
