Junior National Teamer Rowan Cox Sets Pair of State Records at Texas 6A Championships

A member of the United States Junior National Team, Rowan Cox closed out his high school career in style at the Texas 6A Championships on Saturday night. A University of Texas recruit, Cox raced at his future collegiate home and walked away with victories in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Cox also contributed to Austin Bowie’s third-place showing in the 200 medley relay.

Individually, Cox secured his first gold medal of states in the 100 butterfly, where he delivered a state-record time of 45.47. Cox was out in 21.42 and came home in 24.05 to earn the win by nearly three seconds. Cox followed that performance by blasting the field in the 100 backstroke, a time of 46.27 good for another state record. This time, Cox registered a margin of victory of 2.24 seconds. The former state record in the 100 backstroke belonged to Maximus Williamson, now a freshman at the University of Virigina, in 46.29.

Last summer, Cox was a member of a pair of medal-winning relays for the United States at the World Junior Championships in Romania. During the summer of 2024, Cox totaled seven medals at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Cox won the silver medal at Junior Pan Pacs in the 100 butterfly and contributed to six medal-winning relays.
