Hoosiers Keep Local Product Peter Kovacs in Bloomington Starting in 2028-29
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has kept local superstar Peter Kovacs, a Bloomington native, in-state for his college career, as he announced his verbal commitment today. Kovacs is a U.S. Open qualifier who excels in freestyle and butterfly.
He will join Adam Barlow, Josiah Collins and Sawyer Wilson in Bloomington in Fall 2028.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Indiana University! I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who has helped me get to this point and supported me along the way. I’m excited for this next chapter and all that’s to come! Go Hoosiers! 🦬”
His best times include:
- 100 free – 43.79
- 200 free – 1:36.12
- 50 free – 20.03
- 50 fly – 22.51
- 100 fly – 48.43
Currently a junior at Bloomington South High School, Kovacs won the 50 free and 100 free at the 2026 Indiana State Championships after taking second in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 free in 2025. He has earned NISCA All-American honors.
Indiana won the Big Ten title in 2026 before going on to place third at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
