FSU Seminoles Get 2027 Verbal From Junior National Finalist Hudson Roybal

NEW COMMIT: Florida State University has added a verbal commitment for Fall 2027 from Hudson Roybal of Flower Mound, Texas. Roybal is a Junior National qualifier who excels in mid-distance freestyle and backstroke.

He will join Nicolas LeeJoey Curcio and Grady Bell in Tallahassee as a member of the Seminoles’ Class of 2031.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“After thoughtful consideration, I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue both my athletic and academic career at Florida State University. First and foremost, I want to give praise to God for providing me with such a privilege and making it easy for me to trust in the process. I would also like to thank all my family, friends, coaches and teammates who put such a strong support system behind me. Lastly, I want to thank the entire coaching staff at FSU for showing interest in me and wanting to turn me into a Seminole. GO NOLES!!!”

Roybal, who does his club swimming with Metroplex Aquatics, finished fourth in the 200 back and fifth in the 200 free at Justin Speedo Sectionals in March. He took 10th in the 200 back at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he finaled in the 200m back at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:38.03
  • 500 free – 4:28.76
  • 100 back – 48.51
  • 200 back – 1:45.61

A rising senior at Marcus Hugh School, Roybal was the runner-up in the 100 back at the 2026 Texas UIL 6A State Championships where he helped his team win the 4×50 free and 4×50 medley relays. He placed 15th in the 200 free at the state meet during his sophomore season.

Florida State finished sixth at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
