Finland’s Eetu Autio Sends 2027 Verbal Commitment to Virginia Tech

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has scored a big international verbal commitment from Eetu Autio of Turku, Finland, for the 2027 season. Autio is a versatile swimmer who represents his home country internationally.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Im excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech! I want to thank God, my mom, coach @aija.hakala , all the friends who helped throughout the process. Finally i want to thank @sergiolopezmiro for the opportunity and @subicule for trusting me since day one. GO HOKIES”

Autio raced five events at European Short Course Championships back in December after clocking personal bests in two events at the Finnish Grand Open the month prior. Last summer, he competed in a trio of events at European Junior Championships. He also earned silver in both the 200m fly and 200m IM at the Slovakia Cup last fall.

In SCM, his best times include:

  • 200m IM – 1:59.93
  • 400m IM – 4:13.70
  • 200m free – 1:51.81
  • 400m free – 3:51.14
  • 800m free – 8:00.59
  • 200m fly – 1:57.14
  • 200m breast – 2:14.96

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 200 IM – 1:48.92
  • 400 IM – 3:48.87
  • 200 free – 1:40.59
  • 500 free – 4:24.11
  • 1000 free – 9:08.96
  • 200 fly – 1:45.43
  • 200 breast – 2:01.69

The Hokies finished sixth at the 2025 ACC Championships.
