Distance Ace Madalyn Petty Pledges 2028 Verbal to Georgia Bulldogs

NEW COMMIT: Tyler, Texas native Madalyn Petty has pledged her verbal commitment to continue her academic and swimming career at the University of Georgia beginning in the 2028-29 season. Petty is one of the top distance swimmers in her class.

She will join Grace Perry in Athens as a member of the Bulldogs’ Class of 2032.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Georgia!! I would first like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for their support along the way, as well as Coach Gordy, Coach Abbi, and Coach Petty (the best dad ever!), and all of the coaches at Tyler Rose! Additionally, I would like to give a huge thank you to the coaches at Georgia—Coach Stefanie, Fernando, and Jerry—for making this dream possible. SIC ’EM!!!”

Petty, who trains year-round with Tyler Rose Aquatic Club, most recently placed second in the 1500m free, third in the 800m free and fourth in the 400m free at Junior Nationals this past summer. She earned four best times at that meet.

Petty had a fantastic showing at Justin Speedo Sectionals in March. Not only did she earn best times in all her events, but she won them all too – 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free and 400 IM.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:48.68
  • 500 free – 4:43.22
  • 1000 free – 9:39.21
  • 1650 free – 16:18.88
  • 400 IM – 4:16.14

Currently a junior at Tyler Legacy High School, Petty won the 500 free and took seventh in the 200 free at the 2026 UIL 6A State Championships. The NISCA All-American won the 500 free and took ninth in the 200 free at the state meet as a freshman in 2025. Her dad, Jason Petty, is her high school coach.

Georgia finished eighth at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships and 15th at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Petty’s best time in the mile is already fast enough to have placed 10th at last year’s conference meet while her top 500 free time would’ve scored in the B-final.
