Bolles School Rips National High School Record in 200 Medley Relay at Florida 1A Championships

The Bolles School opened the Florida 1A Championships in style on Saturday night, as the elite program set a national high school record in the 200-yard medley relay. Bolles, one of the storied programs in scholastic swimming, recorded a time of 1:26.67. That performance bettered the previous national record of 1:26.75, set last winter by Hinsdale Central (Ill.). Bolles also broke the independent schools’ record of 1:27.74, set in 2014 by the Baylor School.

Bolles got rolling when Krish Jain turned in a backstroke leg of 21.95. The momentum carried forward on breaststroke, where Lucas Young split 24.37. The back half of the relay featured a 21.03 butterfly split from George Dovellos and a freestyle anchor of 19.32 by Liam Carrington. Bolles’ pursuit of a national record was suggested last week when it dipped under 1:30 during regional action.

Bolles also put together a superb 200 freestyle relay, as Carrington (19.89), Dovellos (19.91), Tommy Lussier (20.37) and Ethan Bathala (20.12) combined for a time of 1:20.29. Carrington won the 100 freestyle in 42.66.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) holds its state-championship meets over two weekends, with the 1A and 2A competitions this weekend. Next week, the 3A and 4A meets will be held. In 4A, Windermere High School’s Rylee Erisman, a world junior champion last summer, is expected to make a run at Gretchen Walsh’s national high school records in the 50 freestyle (21.59) and 100 freestyle (46.98).
