Backstroker Grady Bell to Join Florida State Seminoles in 2027
NEW COMMIT: Florida State University has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 and beyond from Grady Bell of Austin, Texas. Bell is a talented backstroker who is a Junior National qualifier.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to Florida State University, where I will continue my athletic and academic journey. I am incredibly grateful for my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported and believed in me every step of the way. Your guidance, encouragement, and sacrifices made this opportunity possible. I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready for the next chapter. Go Noles!”
Bell, who trains year-round with Nitro Swimming, most recently competed at Justin Speedo Sectionals where he took second in the 50 back, third in the 100 back, sixth in the 200 back and seventh in the 200 free. He placed 12th in the 200 back at Juniors West in December and earned bronze in the 200m back at Plantation Speedo Sectionals in February.
Last summer, Bell recorded two top-10 finishes at Austin Speedo Sectionals before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.
His best times include:
- 50 back – 22.55
- 100 back – 48.58
- 200 back – 1:45.92
- 200 free – 1:39.29
Bell is a great pickup for the Seminoles, who finished sixth at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. His top time in the 200 back would’ve ranked fifth on their lineup last season.
