Alabama Adds Jimmy Jacobs, Cooper Walkup to Class of 2032

NEW COMMITS: The University of Alabama has picked up two new verbal commitments for Fall 2028 from Williamsburg, Va. native Jimmy Jacobs and Cooper Walkup of Aurora, Colo.

They will join Owen Miklos in Tuscaloosa as members of the Crimson Tide’s Class of 2032.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“After careful thought and consideration, I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama! First I would like to thank God, because I know none of this would be possible without Him. I would also like to thank my parents and my sister who have made it possible for me to pursue my dreams, and my teammates, friends, and family for all helping me throughout this journey. Special thanks to Coach Graham, Coach Matt, and Coach Kip for supporting me and helping me get to where I am today. I am also grateful to Coach Geer, Coach Hodgson, and Coach Purdy for giving me this incredible opportunity! Roll Tide!”

Jacobs, who does his club swimming with 757swim, raced four events at Junior Nationals this past summer where he finaled in the 50m back after earning silver in the 100m back and bronze in the 50m back at Virginia Long Course Seniors. Last winter, he won the 50 back and 100 back at Virginia Short Course Seniors as well as at the ISCA International Senior Cup.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.39
  • 100 back – 48.38
  • 50 fly – 22.69
  • 100 fly – 50.00

Currently a junior at Lafayette High School, Jacobs took third in the 100 back and ninth in the 100 fly at the 2026 Virginia Class 4 State Championships while leading off the winning 4×50 medley relay.

Cooper Walkup

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am so incredibly excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama. First off I wanted to thank Coach Jay, Coach Nick, and Coach Scott for always pushing me, believing in me, and making me the swimmer I am today. Thank you to my parents and siblings for always supporting and encouraging me. Thank you to my teammates for always pushing me in the water and making swimming so much fun. Lastly, I would like to thank Coach Margo, Coach Andy, Coach Catie, and the entire Alabama Swim and Dive team for this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of the Crimson Tide! ROLL TIDE!”

Walkup trains year-round with Denver Swim Academy and capped off his summer with a great showing at Western Zone Seniors where he earned eight best times and finaled in all his events, highlighted by silver in the 200m IM and bronze in the 400m IM. He finaled in six races at the PN BC Premier Invitational in March, which included a fourth-place showing in the 400 IM.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:49.05
  • 400 IM – 3:54.70
  • 200 back – 1:49.24
  • 100 breast – 57.81
  • 200 breast – 2:03.03

Currently a junior at Smoky Hill High School, Walkup took second in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 free at the 2026 Colorado 5A State Championships.

Alabama placed sixth at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships.
