Washington State Earns Four Wins on Day 3 of Hawkeye Invitational
The Hawkeye Invitational continued from Iowa City on Thursday, Nov. 20, with a full slate of events. Washington State won four events to close in, but Nebraska still held the lead after the third day.
Nebraska has 853.5 points, followed by Washington State (798.5), Iowa (737), Kansas (680), Illinois (643), Miami (491), UConn (465), Iowa State (457) and Northern Iowa (237).
Women’s 100 Fly
Nebraska’s Beatrix Tanko won the 100 fly in 52.03, dropping a half second from prelims.
Kansas’ Lydia Lafferty was also under 53, getting to the wall in 52.96 to claim second.
Iowa’s Rachel Dildine finished third in 53.67, followed by Miami’s Isabelle Videment (53.82), Kansas’ Anna Gearhart (54.03), Nebraska’s Jazmyn Lunn (54.84), Iowa’s Payton Flowers (54.89) and UConn’s Ella Epes (55.13).
Women’s 400 IM
Iowa’s Olivia Swalley won her second event of the meet, taking first place in the 400 IM. Swalley dropped more than five seconds from her prelims time to get to the wall in 4:11.23.
Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson was second in 4:14.40, followed by Washington State’s Ariel Wang (4:15.13), Illinois’ Sara Jass (4:15.46), Nebraska’s Aurora Zanin (4:19.71), Miami’s Sophie Lenze (4:19.77), Illinois’ Chloe Diner (4:20.57) and Nebraska’s Marissa Laurin (4:20.59).
Women’s 200 Free
Washington State’s Lauren Wille won the 200 free by nearly a half second after dropping 1.5 seconds off her prelims time and finishing in 1:46.78.
Miami’s Savannah Barr was a close second at 1:47.03, a half second ahead of Nebraska’s Giulia Marchi (1:47.63).
Stunningly, Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson did a double of back-to-back events, and after her 400 IM final, finished fourth in the 200 free final with a swim of 1:47.64.
Nebraska teammate Riley Miklos finished fifth (1:47.80), followed by Kansas’ Ivy Solt (1:47.91), Washington State’s Darcy Revitt (1:48.86) and Iowa’s Nora Kemp (1:49.95).
Women’s 100 Breaststroke
Washington State’s Emily Lundgren dropped another half second off or her prelims time and cruised to victory in the 100 breaststroke in 59.42, the only member of the field to break a minute.
Teammate Ashlyn Hernandez was second in 1:00.77, followed by Illinois’ Kayla Duran (1:00.93), Iowa State’s Grace Swaboda (1:00.99), UConn’s Sydney Perkins (1:01.28), Kansas’ Ryan Johnston (1:01.34.
Illinois’ Chloe Diner also pulled off a successful double. After her 400 IM final, she finished seventh in the 100 breast in 1:01.45 to hold off Iowa State’s Anja Peck (1:01.81).
Women’s 100 Backstroke
Washington State made it three wins in a row when Anna Rauchholz won the 100 back in 52.57.
Kansas’ Lydia Lafferty, doing a double, finished second in 53.15, followed by Miami’s Leah Treglia (53.58), Washington State’s Jade Castro (54.06), Illinois’ Michelle Kaner (54.10), Nebraska’s Virginia Consiglio (54.22), UConn’s Molly Rogers (55.06) and Kansas’ Bradie Ward (55.17).
Women’s 3-Meter Diving
Kansas’ Shiyun Lai swept the springboards with a win on 3-meter. She totaled a score of 364.15.
Iowa’s Lainey Woodward took second with a score of 321.00, followed by Nebraska’s Abigail Baxter (319.60), Iowa State’s Katherine Mitchell (310.95), Iowa’s Zita Bernatsky (303.95), Nebraska’s Frances Webb (271.40), Iowa’s Geneva Pauly (263.35) and Illinoi’s Matilda Garcia (211.10).
Women’s 400 Medley Relay
Washington State claimed its fourth swimming victory of the night with a win in the 400 medley relay.
Anna Rauchholz, Ashlyn Hernandez, Emily Lundgren and Darcy Revitt combined to finish in 3:33.12.
Miami’s Leah Treglia, Sophie Lenze, Isabelle Videment and Brooke Murphy took second in 3:38.64.
Third place went to Kansas’ Lydia Lafferty, Ryan Johnston, Anna Gearhart and Sarah Blake (3:38.95).
Nebraska was fourth (3:40.42), followed by Illinois (3:40.46) and Iowa (3:40.68).
