US Open Day 3 Prelims: Shaine Casas Blasts Meet Record in 100 Butterfly

The US Open continued from Texas with the third day of competition.

The prelims include the men’s and women’s 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle.

Here is a look at what happened during prelims:

Results

US Open Women’s 100 Butterfly

Gretchen Walsh sprinted to the top seed in the packed 100 butterfly to start the morning. The world record holder got to the wall in 56.64.

Fellow U.S. Olympians Regan Smith (57.19) and Alex Shackell (57.81) followed, ahead of Canadian Olympic champion Summer McIntosh (57.92).

The finals should be fast and intriguing.

The fifth seed went to Marie Wattel in 58.70, followed by Isabella Boyd (58.95), Leah Shackley (59.25) and Campbell Stoll (59.43).

US Open Men’s 100 Butterfly

Shaine Casas raced to the 100 butterfly top seed in a meet record 50.78.

Casas, who won the 50 back on Day 2, topped the previous championship record of 51.03 that he set in 2023.

Canadian Olympian Ilya Kharun took the second seed in 50.91, ahead of Cal champion Dare Rose (51.60).

Caeleb Dressel (51.77) and Leon Marchand (51.81) added an extra layer of star power to the event and took the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively.

The sixth seed went to Bjoern Kammann (51.94), while Hubert Kos and Aiden Hayes tied for the seventh seed at 52.30.

US Open Women’s 400 IM

Canadian Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey has had a strong year and continues to prove she belongs in the elite level.

She took the top seed in the 400 IM, getting ot he wall in 4:40.98, nearly three seconds ahead of the field.

U.S. Olympian Emma Weyant took the second seed in 4:43.45, followed by Tara Kinder (4:44.70), Sadie Buckley (4:47.89), Rosie Murphy (4:49.86), Ieva Maluka (4:51.31), Emma Finlin (4:52.38) and Emma Gigna (4:53.92).

US Open Men’s 400 IM

Carson Foster cruised to the top seed in the men’s event, finishing three seconds ahead of the field with a swim of 4:15.19.

Ohio State’s Tristan Jankovics took the second seed ahead of Texas’ Cooper Lucas (4:18.74) and Luka Mijatovic (4:19.45).

Tommy Bried took the fifth seed in 4:20.29, followed by Baylor Nelson (4:20.37), Ivan Puskovitch (4:20.66) and Gregg Enoch (4:21.77).

Bobby Finke took the ninth seed in 4:22.01.

US Open Women’s 100 Breaststroke

Olympic medalist Kate Douglass took the top seed in the 100 breaststroke.

After winning the 200 IM and 50 free on Day 2, Douglass got to the wall in 1:06.57 in the 100 breaststroke to keep her stellar meet going.

Ireland Olympian Mona McSharry took the second seed in 1:07.07, ahead of Canada’s Alexanne LePage (1:07.44).

Olympic medalist Alex Walsh took the sixth seed in 1:08.66, behind Aliz Kalmar (1:08.04) and Mackenzie Lung (1:08.48).

Piper Enge of Texas was the seventh seed (1:09.09) ahead of Skyler Smith (1:09.13).

US Open Men’s 100 Breaststroke

Indiana’s Alexi Avakov took the top seed in the 100 breaststroke at 59.99, the only one in the field to break a minute during prelims.

Texas’ Campbell McKean (1:00.19) and Nate Germonprez (1:00.34) were just behind.

Jack Kelly took the fourth spot in 1:00.41, followed by Luke Barr (1:00.54), Josh Matheny (1:00.57), Denis Petrashov (1:00.70) and Noah Cakir (1:00.85).

Leon Marchand took the ninth seed in 1:00.98, just after swimming the 100 butterfly.

US Open Women’s 100 Backstroke

The days of the loaded 100 backstroke continued with a star-studded field heading into tonight’s final.

Olympic medalists Regan Smith (58.73), Katharine Berkoff (59.40) and Phoebe Bacon (59.78) took the top three seeds.

The fourth wen to Canadian Olympian Ingrid Wilm (1:00.25), head of NC State’s Leah Shackley (1:00.27) and Erika Pelaez (1:00.34).

Canadian Olympians Summer McIntosh (1:00.80) and Mary-Sophie Harvey (1:00.92) rounded out the finalists after putting together impressive doubles during prelims.

US Open Men’s 100 Backstroke

Hungarian Olympic champion Hubert Kos took the top seed in the 100 back in 53.30.

The second seed was a tie between Ivan Tarasov and Blake Tierney, each finishing in 53.70.

Australian Henry Allan took the fourth spot in 53.77, followed by Daniel Diehl (54.19), Hudson Williams (54.63), Tommy Hagar (54.65) and Joy Hayburn (54.90).

US Open Women’s 200 Freestyle

U.S. Olympian Anna Peplowski from Indiana took the top seed in the 200 free, getting to the wall in 1:58.19.

Olympic champion Simone Manuel took the second seed in 1:58.43, just ahead of Indiana’s Liberty Clark (1:58.81).

Olympian Erin Gemmell took the fourth spot in 1:59.49, followed by Erin Little (1:59.70), Chloe Stepanek (1:59.72), Inez Miller (2:00.00) and Daria Golovaty (2:00.75).

 

US Open Men’s 200 Freestyle

After winning the 50 free on Day 2, Chris Guiliano cruised to the top seed in the 200 free with a swim of 1:45.91 on Day 3.

Fellow Olympians Luke Hobson (1:46.25), Aaron Shackell (1:46.61) and Kieran Smith (1:47.29) rounded out the top four seeds.

Patrick Sammon took the fifth seed in 1:47.40, followed by Tomas Navikonis (1:47.41), Cal’s Gabriel Jett (1:47.60) and Kaique de Morais Alves (1:48.21).

My last salary was $8750, ecom only worked 12 hours a week. My longtime neighbor yr estimated $15,000 and works about 20 hours for seven days. I can’t believe how blunt he was when I looked up his information,
