US Nationals Day 5 Finals: Katie Ledecky Closes With Win Women’s 1500
Ledecky is poised for another stellar World Aquatics Championship after another outstanding performance at the U.S. National Championships.
She won the 400 and 800 earlier in the meet and continues to be the face of Team USA.
Ledecky capped her meet on Saturday with another emphatic win in the 1500 freestyle, even with a swim not at her best. About halfway through the race, Ledecky knew she wasn’t at her top pace to challenge for a record and eased up just a bit and was still able to comfortably best the field.
Ledecky made quick work of the 1500 once again, though not quite as fast as she has been this season. It was still enough to leave the field in her wake for yet another important race. She got to the wall in 15:36.76 and again there was no one within a length of her at her finish.
“I would say (I didn’t) have the 1500 I was hoping for, but the 800 was really good,” Ledecky said, reiterating that it was a strong week with more to work on for Singapore.
Of course part of that was because Claire Weinstein went a 16:01.96 from one of the early heats.
NCAA mile champion Jillian Cox was third in 16:05.88 to hold off Kate Hurst, who finished fourth in the field at the US Nationals.
