UC San Diego Men and Women Win PCSC Championships

The Pacific Swim Conference Championships concluded this evening. The women’s 200 breast and men’s 100 back and 200 breast PCSC records were broken. UC San Diego both the men’s and women’s teams took the Championship title.

In the final of the women’s 1650 free, UC San Diego’s Haley Hamza took the gold with a 17:04.59. Her teammate Stephanie Sin came in second place with a 17:12.83 and Azusa’s Rosalee Mira Santa Ana touched in a 17:19.46 for third place.

UC San Diego’s men swept the podium in the 1650 freestyle. Kyle Nadler won the event with a 15:48.71. His teammates Chandler Pourvahidi (15:51.93) and Sasha Mitrushina (15:57.58) came in for the silver and bronze.

UC San Diego’s Julia Toronczak won the women’s 200 back with a 1:59.41. Azusa’s Abigail Weit took the silver with a 2:01.75 and Olga Melnikova of Fresno Pacific got third place with a 2:02.90.

After breaking the PSCS record this morning in the men’s 200 back, Michael Cohn of UC San Diego, won the event with a 1:44.92, again breaking the PCSC record. His teammates, CJ Pais came in second with a 1:48.61 and Alexander Moshensky came in third for the bronze with a 1:49.16.

UC San Diego’s Colleen Daley won the women’s 100 free in a 50.34. Biola’s Lisa Tixier took the silver with a 51.18 and Loyola Marymount’s Kristen Brennand went a 51.28 for third place.

Dylan Alba won the men’s 100 free for Concordia Irvine with a 45.09. Kevin Wylder of UC San Diego went a 54.28 for second place and right behind was Concordia Irvine’s John Dowd took the bronze with a 45.32.

Fresno Pacific’s Daria Belova won the women’s 200 breastroke tonight. She went a 2:13.55 and with this time she broke the previous PCSC record of 2:14.40. Pepperdine’s Jessica Mosbaugh went a 2:14.69 for the silver and UC San Diego’s Lily Maxfield took third place with a 2:15.65.

Maksim Shcherbakov of Fresno Pacific went a 1:56.25 winning the men’s 200 breast. With this time he resets the PCSC record he broke this morning. UC San Diego took the silver and bronze. Zach Yong went a 1:59.97 for second place and Garrett Tse placed third (2:02.22).

In the women’s 200 butterfly, Dari Watkins of UC San Diego, won the event with a 2:01.33. Loyola Marymount’s Hannah Calton went a 2:01.35 for the silver and UC San Diego’s Naomi Thomas got third place with a 2:02.89.

Fresno Pacific’s Wesley Coles took the gold in the men’s 200 butterfly with a 1:49.50. Paul Li of UC San Diego went a 1:50.72 for silver and his teammate Kevin Fink was right behind him with a 1:50.84 for third place.

UC San Diego won both the men’s and women’s 400 free relays tonight. In the women’s event the UC Sand Diego team of Natalie Tang (51.15), Maddy Huttner (50.97), Dari Watkins (50.67) and Daley (50.31) went a 2:23.10 for the win. Loyola Marymount’s team of Calton (52.12), Kristen Clarno (50.71), Brennand (51.36) and Isabel Willis (52.25) went a 3:36.44 for second place. Cal State East Bay took third (3:27.34) with Morgan McClure (52.70), Cassidy Humphrey (51.50), Alyssa Littlefield (52.12) and Madison Hauanio (51.02).

UC San Diego’s men’s team won in a 3:00.71 and the team of Julian Jacobs (45.88), Wylder (45.18), Cohn (44.98) and Arthur Heale (44.67). Austin Hussain (45.65), Luka Barisic (45.60), Blake Hollis (45.97) and Coles (45.06) of Fresno Pacific took silver in a 2:02.28. Concordia Irvine’s team of Dowd (45.35), Riki Yamamoto (48.11), Rhett Turvey (46.65) and Alba (45.53) touched in at a 3:05.64 for third place.
