U.S. Nationals, Day Two Women’s Prelims: Virginia Upstarts Madi Mintenko, Sophia Umstead Claim Top Seeds
Day Two of the USA Swimming 2026 Toyota National Championships have kicked off from Irvine, California.
The women’s events for the Day Two prelims include the 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 50 butterfly.
Here is a look at what happened during the women’s prelims:
National Championships: Women’s 200 Freestyle
University of Virginia swimmers took two of the top three spots in finals with their prelims speed.
Madi Mintenko was the fastest of the morning, reaching the wall in 1:56.81, the only swimmer to break 1:57 in the session, finishing ahead of Tennessee’s Camille Spink (1:57.39).
Anna Moesch, fresh off of her American record in the 100 free, took the third spot in 1:57.49 and will be a huge factor in the finals.
Rylee Erisman continued her strong meet with a swim of 1:57.60 to take the fourth spot ahead o of Indiana’s Liberty Clark (1:57.20), Cavan Gormsen (1:57.71), Wolfpack Elite’s Erika Pelaez (1:58.22) and Marie Landreneau (1:58.46).
Lilly Nesty was ninth, followed by Chloe Stepanek, Bella Sims and Hannah Bellard.
National Championships: Women’s 200 Breaststroke
Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics swimmer Sophia Umstead raced to the top seed in the 200 breaststroke. The University of Virginia incoming sophomore was the only swimmer to break 2:28 in the prelims – and she broke 2:27, getting to the wall in 2:26.07.
Alto Swim Club’s Adalene Robillard took the second seed for tonight’s final with a swim of 2:28.04.
Kaidy Stout took the third seed in 2:28.61, followed by Katie Christopherson (2:28.67), Kayda Geyer (2:19.10), Maddy Huggins (2:29.25), Piper Enge (2:29.33) and Grace Raab (2:29.45).
National Championships: Women’s 200 Backstroke
Isabelle Stadden continued her tremendous resurgence year with a strong prelims swim in the 200 back.
Stadden got to the wall in 2:07.11 to earn the top seed in tonight’s national final.
Wisconsin’s Maggie Wanezek took the second seed in 2:07.80, ahead of Rylee Erisman (2:08.00), who is doing a double this morning.
Charlotte Crush touched in 2:08.38 to take the fourth seed ahead of Teagan O’Dell (2:08.42), Catie Choate (2:09.20), Wolfpack’s Rhyan White (2:09.61) and Sadie Buckley (2:10.00).
