Torri Huske, Caroline Bricker Triple in Stanford Sweep of USC

Stanford’s women completed the Southern California sweep, adding a dominant dual meet win over USC by a final score of 208-91 one day after also beating UCLA. As expected, Olympic gold medalist Torri Huske was central to the effort with three individual wins. The Stanford men got in on the winning, taking down the Trojans with a score of 203-96.

Huske opened her day with a blazing time of 1:42.26 in the 200 freestyle , just outside of the national top-10 for this season and just three tenths behind her lifetime best of 1:41.90 (ironically achieved against USC last season). Huske then won the 100 free in 47.19, and she went 50.66 for a victorious showing in the 100 fly. Finally, Huske swam the second leg on the winning 200 free relay. Annam Olasewere, Huske, Gigi Johnson and Lucy Thomas swam a final time of 1:27.57.

Stanford’s women dominated the 200 medley relay behind Alana Berlin, Thomas, Johnson and Olasewere, swimming a time of 1:34.96. Thomas got first in the 100 breaststroke (59.30) while Caroline Bricker put forth a strong time of 1:52.77 to win the 200 butterfly, clipping six hundredths off her season best while remaining No. 4 in the country. Bricker would earn two more wins, in the 500 free (4:40.88) and 200 IM (1:57.13)

Lucy Bell is the defending national champion in the 200 breaststroke, and she clocked 2:05.29 in the event, just six tenths off her nationally top-ranked time (2:04.69). Bailey O’Regan topped the 1000 free for the Cardinal (9:44.23). Johnson was the winner of the 50 free in 21.99 while Levenia Sim placed first in the 200 backstroke (1:54.90). Diver Molly Gray was first on 3-meter (330.00).

USC’s Minna Abraham picked up first place in the 100 back (51.22) for the Trojans’ only swimming win on the women’s side. In diving, Kate Miller won 1-meter (298.50).

Stanford’s men won the 200 medley relay in 1:24.43 with Ethan HarringtonZhier FanRafael Gu and Jonathan Tan. Individually, Fan won the 100 breast in 52.02, with teammate Daniel Li just a tenth behind (52.12). Li returned later to take the win in the 200 breast (1:53.32). Gu and Tan tied for first in the 50 free, with both swimmers clocking 19.32

Liam Custer placed first in the 1000 free with a strong time of 8:48.81, and he took the 500 as well (4:19.31) Henry McFadden fired off a time of 1:33.44 in the 200 free, and he also won the 100 free (42.45). Gibson Holmes hit the wall first in the 200 fly (1:42.89), and Jason Zhao was the winner of the 200 IM (1:44.67). Stanford’s Misha Andriyuk won 3-meter diving (419.93) as well as 1-meter (369.00). Gu, Andres Dupont Cabrera, McFadden and Tan comprised the winning 400 free relay, which finished in 2:50.66.

USC’s Michal Chmielewski dominated the 100 back in 45.82 before edging Gu in the 100 fly, 45.33 to 45.42. Vaggelis Makrygiannis took first in the 200 back (1:40.54).
