Three-time Olympic champion Tom Dean has been unveiled as the first celebrity ambassador of the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS).

The announcement follows the deaths of 17 people in water-related incidents during the recent hot weather in the UK.

The RLSS said of the collaboration with Dean: “This landmark partnership is driven by one goal: helping more people enjoy the water safely and confidently. As accidental drowning remains a leading cause of preventable death, spreading clear, lifesaving advice has never been more important.”

The double world 4×2 relay champion’s swim school in Maidenhead will host a water safety education event on 17 June where more than 500 pupils from six local primary schools will be given live rescue demonstrations by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

That comes a little over five weeks before Dean heads to Glasgow to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games with the European Championships coming hot on the heels in Paris.
