Thomas Heilman Powers Piedmont as YMCA Nationals Open
Olympian Thomas Heilman fueled the Piedmont Family YMCA to an 800 freestyle relay title on Monday night, the first of five days of competition at the YMCA National Championships in Greensboro.
Heilman and Will Browne were joined by Will Charlton and Brayden King for victory in 6:32.87. Heilman led off in 1:33.94, with Browne splitting 1:36.51 for the second leg. Charlton (1:40.04) and King (1:42.38) closed out the triumph, with Greater Spartanburg placing second in 6:33.14. Greater Somerset finished third in 6:33.20.
Schroeder topped the field in the women’s 800 freestyle relay, as Alana Berlin (1:47.55) led off and was joined by Maggie Dickinson (1:48.35) and Ari Zhao (1:50.22). Anne Dickinson was the fourth member of the squad, going 1:49.85.
In the 1000 freestyle events, wins were claimed by Piedmont’s Meghan Ayres (9:52.92) and Greater Spartanburg’s Lincoln Council (9:13.86).
