Team USA Triathlete Spencer Korwin Dies in Apparent Drowning Accident
Spencer Korwin, who represented the United States at the 2012 World Triathlon Championships in New Zealand, was found dead on Wednesday, the victim of an apparent drowning. The 38-year-old was on vacation with his family and found underneath the dock of the Pridwin Hotel on Long Island.
According to the New York Post, Korwin went for a morning swim and never returned. He was reported missing and after an extensive search, his body was located under the dock. It is not known what led to Korwin’s death, and the water conditions at the time of his swim were considered good. An official investigation is underway.
“There wasn’t anything unusual,” Southold Town Police Department’s Marine One Master John Kirincic told the Shelter Island Reporter. “There was no fog or anything bad.”
A GoFundMe has been launched to raise money for Korwin’s family. As of Sunday afternoon, it had raised more than $300,000.
