Olympic Medalist Tamas Kenderesi Loses Appeal As CAS Confirms Four-Year Doping Ban

Tamas Kenderesi Loses Appeal As CAS Confirms Four-Year Ban
Tamas Kenderesi must serve his four-year suspension after the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed his appeal against the ban imposed by the Hungarian Anti-Doping Agency (HUNADO).
The publication of the decision followed several delays with the judging panel of James Drake (Great Britain), Péter Pákay (Hungary) and Ulrich Haas (Germany)upholding HUNADO’s ban which dated from 23 January 2023.
It follows events in 2022 when results of a blood test were compared to tests in 2017 as part of the Athlete Biological Passport which is an individual profile that monitors biological variables that indirectly reveal the effects of artificial manipulation – doping.
Kenderesi – who won 200 fly bronze at Rio 2016 – argued an administrative error had resulted in his blood passport being labelled “atypical” and had denied using banned substances.
A hearing by the World Anti-Doping Agency – which included three independent hematologists – concluded that manipulation had occurred, a decision with which CAS now concurs.
The three-time European medallist will now be banned until 22 January 2027.
