Former Team USA swimmer and NCAA champion Catherine Breed has announced a plan to “Swim California” in 2026.
The swim will be the first known attempt to swim the full length of the California coast from Oregon to Mexico.
Previously Breed has swam the English Channel, Lake Tahoe and Monterey Bay.
Breed will participate in this 900-plus mile swim to raise awareness and funds for Sea Dreamers, a non-profit that opens doors for women in ocean-based activities to accomplish big goals, join a network of empowered individuals, and educate on ocean conservation.
“’Swim California’ is more than a swim — it’s a way to connect with each other in this place we love,” Breed said in a release. “It’s about creating an impact and protecting it for generations to come.”
“Swim California” will unfold in stages over a few months in 2026. Breed will tackle the raw, complex waters of the California coast: from the remote northern Redwoods and the Golden Gate, to Big Sur’s cliffs, Monterey Bay’s marine sanctuary, and the coastlines of Los Angeles and San Diego.
Each leg of the journey will be tracked in real-time, with video storytelling and community education integrated into the campaign.
