Sun Devil Open Day 2: Taylor Ruck, Torri Huske Double Up With Pair of Wins

The Sun Devil Open continued with its second day of competition from Tempe on Saturday, May 17.

Taylor Ruck opened the second day of finals with a win in the 50 backstroke. The Canadian Olympian got to the wall in 28.87 to drop .23 hundredths from prelims.

Ruck, swimming for Sun Devil Aquatics, was followed by Miriam Sheehan (29.96) and Kailah Dauderman (31.84).

Ruck also won the 100 back to close the session in 1:00.93. Gerda Szilagyi was second (1:03.36), ahead of Payden Rafferty (1:04.44).

The men’s 50 back saw Michael Andrew win in 25.43, a half-second ahead of Bryce Broadhead (26.05).

Torri Huske continued her strong meet with a win in the 100 butterfly. The Olympic gold medalist got to the wall in 58.01. Sun Devil’s Marie Wattel took second in 59.35, followed by Alto’s Gigi Johnson (1:00.73).

Huske then won the 200 free, the very next event, in 1:59.22. Kayla Wilson was second in 2:01.41, followed by Addie Sauickie (2:02.79).

Sun Devil Aquatics went 1-2-3 in the men’s 100 fly. Canadian Olympian Ilya Kharun won the event in 50.93, ahead of ASU teammate Jonny Kulow (53.28) and Michael Andrew (54.04), in his second race of the night.

Alto Swim Club completed a 1-2-3 sweep with Caroline Bricker getting to the wall first in 4:42.38. Lucy Bell was second in 4:50.71, followed by Emily Thompson (4:52.90).

Dominik Irons won the men’s 400 IM (4:41.34), followed by Kevin Foley (4:43.70) and Mark Khokhlov was third in 4:50.21.

Henry McFadden earned the win in the men’s 200 free (1:47.65), followed by Patrick Sammon (1:47.91) and Sun Devils teammate Grant House (1:49.11).

Eleni Gewalt won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:08.56, followed by Lucy Thomas (1:10.17) and Lucie Vasquez (1:11.39).

The win in the men’s 100 breaststroke went to Andy Dobrzanski in 1:01.03. Daniel Li was second (1:02.26) ahead of Michael Hochwalt (1:04.47).

JT Ewing won the men’s 100 back in 56.47, followed by Josh Zuchowski (56.75) and Aaron Sequeira (57.02).
