Water Safety

With a national pledge, swim scholarships, and a guaranteed “Safer Swimmer Promise,” Streamline Brands sets the standard for saving lives through swim instruction.

May is National Water Safety Month, and the urgency has never been greater. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in the United States—a statistic that is both staggering and largely preventable.

That’s why Streamline Brands, the largest swim school franchisor in the U.S., is making a big splash this month. With a powerful pledge campaign, local scholarships, and a unique instructional guarantee, Streamline is redefining how families can take action to prevent tragedy.

Take the Water Safety Pledge

In collaboration with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, Streamline Brands is promoting a simple but vital step: the Water Safety Pledge.

The pledge teaches families the Five Layers of Protection:

  • Barriers and alarms
  • Water competency
  • Supervision
  • Life jackets
  • Emergency preparedness (including CPR and location awareness)

“The Water Safety Pledge gives parents a framework. It’s not just awareness—it’s action.”– Chris Harkness, CEO, Streamline Brands

Their goal? 25,000 pledges in May—and they’re already well on their way.

Turning Awareness Into Access

To boost impact, Streamline is running a friendly competition across its 200+ schools nationwide. The school with the most pledges will receive a scholarship to provide free swim lessons to a child in need.

Additionally, through their foundation, Play Without Limits, Streamline provides year-round swim scholarships to underserved communities—because every child deserves access to water safety.

“Our mission is simple: teach the joy of swimming and provide a lifetime of safety and opportunity.”– Chris Harkness

A “Safer Swimmer Promise” Parents Can Trust

What truly sets Streamline apart is its focus on measurable outcomes. Their Safer Swimmer Promise guarantees that children over age 4 who complete their Beginner 1 program will be able to:

  • Self-rescue
  • Float and control their breathing
  • Swim basic strokes with confidence

That’s one half-hour lesson per week for a year—with clear goals and a 10-step skills test to track progress.

“We back our promise with outcomes. If your child sticks with us, we guarantee they’ll become a capable swimmer.” – Chris Harkness

The 4 C’s of Swim Success

Streamline’s approach goes beyond just safety. Their instruction model follows the Four C’s:

  • Comfort in the water
  • Capability in self-rescue and endurance
  • Confidence through proper stroke development
  • Competition for those ready to advance

“We go from toddlers to triathletes. Strong swimmers are safe swimmers.”– Chris Harkness

With brands like SafeSplash and SwimLabs, Streamline teaches everyone from early learners to elite athletes—supporting pre-competitive and advanced training in select locations.

A Network Tied to Champions

Streamline isn’t alone in this mission. Former Olympians have become franchise owners, and some locations are led by NCAA swim coaches—including ties to programs like University of Louisville.

While Streamline does not run club teams, it plays a crucial upstream role in preparing swimmers for competitive opportunities. “Most parents aren’t experts in swim instruction—we help them navigate what progress looks like.”– Chris Harkness
