SEC Championships, Day 4 Prelims: Josh Liendo Sets Meet Record 43.70 in 100 Fly
Josh Liendo got Thursday’s session of the SEC Championships off to a flying start, the Florida junior going 43.70. That lowers his meet mark from last year’s championships, at 43.89.
Liendo is leading the way for Florida on a night where it will face a battle from Texas to retain its long streak of SEC titles.

Women’s 400 individual medley
Emma Weyant led four Florida swimmers in the A final in what could be a significant points coup for the Gators. Weyant went 4:03.34, a second clear of Tennessee’s Ella Jansen. Gators took all the odd numbered pots, with Mabel Zavaros third, Julia Brousseau fifth and Sofia Plaza seventh. Texas has both of its Campbells in the A final, Campbell Stoll fourth and Campbell Chase eighth.

Rex Maurer led three Texas swimmers in the A final, going 3:38.61. That is .03 ahead of Baylor Nelson of Texas A&M, who is chasing his third straight title in the event. David Johnston of Texas was third, with Cooper Lucas in seventh.
Florida has a pair of A finalists, led by Gio Linscheer in fourth.

Emma Sticklen led the way in prelims in 49.85, three tenths off her best time of the season. She is more than a second clear of teammate Abigail Arens, while Olivia Bray is also in the A final in sixth.
Olivia Peoples of Florida was third, with South Carolina’s Greta Pelzek fourth.

Josh Liendo went 43.70 to lead the way. He’s eight tenths up on Connor Foote of Texas A&M, whose in the midst of a strong meet. Luca Urlando, the top seed entering the meet, is lurking in third, having gone 44.64. He’s been 43.62 this year. Jordan Crooks is opting for the 200 free this year.
Florida’s Scotty Buff is fourth, followed by four Tennessee swimmers, including Gui Caribe. The Vols also have the ninth-place swimmer.

Erin Gemmell led the way in prelims with a 1:42.84 that is .05 off her season best. She’ll have a bunch of Tennessee swimmers chasing her, with Brooklyn Douthwright leading a trip in 1:43.38. Camille Spink and Julie Mrozinski tied for third. Texas has a second A finalists in Lillian Nesty in fifth. Florida has just one in the A final (Lainy Kruger in sixth).

It’s Texas’ event, and while the depth isn’t quite there, the top-end speed is, with four total swimmers undercutting the pool record at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Chris Guliano will get his name up there, setting the pace in 1:30.31, but NCAA champion Luke Hobson is not far behind in 1:30.76.
Alabama’s Charlie Hawke takes the third seed in 1:30.84, .01 up no Tomas Koski of Georgia. Jordan Crooks is fifth.
Texas’ depth isn’t quite there: Coby Carrozza, in 10th, was third among the Longhorns, with Manning Haskal and Camden Taylor sneaking into the B final.
