Sani Carsrud Leads Campbell County to Wyoming Girls 4A High School Title

Campbell County earned a fourth straight state title at the Wyoming Girls 4A High School State Championship today. Head Coach Josh Bott was named the Coach of the Year. The team’s Sani Carsrud earned Athlete of the Meet and Athlete of the Year. The team totaled 314 points, ahead of Laramie’s 230 and Sheridan’s 203 points.

Carsud led the team to two new state records. In the 200 freestyle relay she combined with Jenny HolwellShaylee Ochsner, and Riley Pilon for a 1:36.81, better than the old 1:37.35. In that event Laramie’s Olivia McPhersonCatie WeathermonCarter Burchi, and Maggie Clerkin finished second in 1:38.28 and third went to Cheyenne Central’s Sammy GeyerHannah LindeRachel Pietsch, and Logan Anderson in 1:39.65.

Carsud teamed up with Pilon, Alaysa Porter, and Taylor Baldacci for a record setting 3:33.65 in the 400 freestyle relay. In that event, Sheridan high school was runner up as the team of Piper CarrollPinnin RobisonMolly Green, and Zoe Robinson clocked a 3:38.82. Laramie was third in 3:40.36 with Clerkin, Brynli Bleak, Burchi, and McPherson.

Sheridan’s quartet edged Campbelll’s Taylor SchieflbeinJenny Howell, Baldacci, and Shaylee Ochsner 1:49.56 to 1:49.59 for the 200 medley title. Geyer, Linde, Anderson, and Porsche Cavanaugh brought home bronze (1:51.93).

Individually, Carsud won the 200 freestyle, ahead of Laramie’s Clerkin (1:57.76) and Sheridan’s Green (1:58.69). She then edged Geyer 50.62 to 50.84 for the 100 freestyle title. McPherson swam a 52.12 for third.

Campbell swept the 200 IM podium. Senior Pilon was first to the wall with a 2:08.89. Howell was just behind in 2:09.16. Baldacci (2:13.06) completed the podium. The team swept the 100 breaststroke as well, led by Holwell (1:03.90). Pilon (1:06.54) and Ochsner (1:08.28) completed the podium.

Laramie freshman McPherson took home the 50 freestyle state title in 23.52, just faster than Geyer in 23.64. Green River’s Avery Otto (24.56) finished third. Otto then stepped up to post a winning 58.13 in the 100 butterfly. Robison and Logan Anderson also dipped under a minute in 59.18 and 59.25.

Rebecka Anderson of Rock Spring won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.64. Clerkin (5:18.09) and Campbell’s McKenna Hauber (5:21.45) touched in second and third. Anderson was the only swimmer under a minute with a 59.47 100 butterfly. Sheridan’s Jadyn Mullikin (1:00.32) and Schiefelbein battled for second, touching in 1:00.32 and 1:00.69.

On the boards, Rock Springs’ Ali Lange earned a one meter score of 405.05 for the state title. Laramie’s Teryn White (370.20) and Kylie Campbell (332.75) rounded out the podium.
