Cate Campbell decided to go after the 100 free world record on the final day at the 2015 Australian Short Course Championships, but did so in a bit of an unorthodox manner as part of the 200 free finale.
Swimming Australia provided the following highlights of the swim.
Original report:
While swimming exhibition as part of the women’s 200-meter freestyle event at the 2015 Australian Short Course Championships, Cate Campbell broke the world record in the 100-meter free with her split.
Campbell clocked a 50.91 at the 100-meter mark, split 24.20, 50.91. She then finished the 200 in 2:18.26 as she cruised home the rest of the way to complete a legal swim.
That broke the previous record held by Australian Libby Trickett with a 51.01 in 2009. Trickett split that race 24.29, 51.01.

In that same race, Emma McKeon nearly broke the world record in the 200-meter free with a time of 1:51.66. That came up just short of Federica Pellegrini’s record of 1:51.17 from 2009. It does, however, stand as the Commonwealth and Australian mark.
