Poolside Passport: Johannes Liebmann on Trading Places with Cam McEvoy…For a Day!
In mid-August, 19-year-old Johannes Liebmann redefined what was attainable in the 1500-meter freestyle. Racing at the European Championships, the German youngster obliterated the world record over 30 laps, clocking a stunning performance of 14:26.79. That effort sliced nearly four seconds off the previous global standard, the 14:30.67 of American and Olympic champion Bobby Finke.
With the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles less than two years away, Liebmann has established himself as the favorite for gold in the 1500 freestyle, while also establishing himself as a leading threat in the 800 freestyle. Liebmann recently took time to answer some questions from Swimming World as part of its Poolside Passport series.
