Ohio State Swims to Sweep of Pitt

The No. 13 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team (6-1) and No. 14 men’s swimming and diving team (5-1) earned dominant victories over Pitt on Saturday.

The OSU women defeated the Panthers, 161.5-131.5 and the men topped Pitt, 181-114.

In the women’s meet, Michelle Mazzara won the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 287.63 to open competition on Saturday.

Ohio State won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.63, which is an NCAA provisional time for the team of Allie Fenska, Maria Ramos, Nyah Funderburke and Teresa Ivan.

Gwen Woodbury (9:49.57) and Emma Finlin (9:50.48) placed first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free.

Sienna Angove (1:45.25), Rachel Bockrath (1:46.67) and Paige Delma (1:46.95) were the top three finishers in the 200 free. Angove and Bockrath’s times are NCAA B cuts. Paige Hall won the 100 back with a time of 52.88. Delia Lloyd placed second with a time of 53.52. Both times are NCAA B standards.

Ava DeAngelis (1:00.40), Reese Dehen (1:01.46), Danika Varda (1:01.56) and Nell Cagle (1:01.75) placed 1-2-3-4 in the 100 breast. DeAngelis’ time is an NCAA B cut.

The winner of the 200 fly was Lucy Malys with an NCAA B standard time of 1:57.49. Jessica Eden finished in 1:59.48 to place third.

Ivan (22.42) and Funderburke (22.73) placed second and third in the 50 free. Ivan’s time is an NCAA B cut.

Ohio State’s Erin Little (48.90) and Rachel Bockrath (49.15) finished first and second in the 100 free. Both times are NCAA B standards.

Elise Nardozzi earned a second-place finish in the 200 back, touching the wall at 1:56.52, which is an NCAA B cut.

Dehen (2:14.14), Krista Marlin (2:14.82) and Mia Rankin (2:15.10) finished 1-2-3 in the 200 breast.

Malys (4:42.61), Finlin (4:57.23) and Woodbury (4:58.64) finished in the top three spots in the 500 free. Malys’ time is an NCAA B cut.

Funderburke placed third in the 100 fly with an NCAA B standard time of 54.43.

The Buckeyes were exhibition swimmers for the remainder of the meet. Angove had the top time in the 400 IM (4:09.68) and the team of Little, Ivan, Hall and Bockrath had the top time in the 400 free relay (3:14.95).

Pitt’s Sophie Yendell won the 50 free in 21.92 and 100 fly (51.74). Jess Vega won 1-meter diving (294.45). Kimmy Shannon won the 200 back in 1:56.13 and 400 IM (4:13.42).

In the men’s meet, Tyler Read was the winner of the 3-meter dive, turning in an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 399.53.

Ohio State took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Cornelius Jahn, Karl Helmuth, Matt Klinge and Daniel Baltes finishing first in 1:24.33 and the team of Joseph Roth, Tristan Jankovics, Evan Fentress and Tomas Navikonis finishing second in 1:25.85.

Charlie Clark (8:58.07), Mason Edmund (9:02.77) and Sam Campbell (9:04.47) finished 1-2-3 in the 1000 free.

Ohio State’s Jordi Vilchez (1:34.20), Jahn (1:34.70) and TJ Frost (1:35.93) took the top three spots in the 200 free. Vilchez and Jahn’s times are NCAA B cuts.

Roth finished second in the 100 back with a time of 47.64 and Martin Perecinsky finished third with a time of 47.83.

Jankovics was the winner of the 100 breast, touching at 53.17. Helmuth (54.08), Luke Vickers (54.21) and Ahmed Ismail ( 54.39) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. All four times are NCAA B cuts.

Alex Metzler won the 200 fly with an NCAA B standard time of 1:44.24. Caleb Ellis (1:45.58) placed third.

Klinge (19.53) and Baltes (19.63) placed first and second in the 50 free, both turning in NCAA B standards.

Baltes (43.40), Navikonis (43.84) and Evan Fentress (43.92) went 2-3-4 in the 100 free.
Jahn was the winner of the 200 back, finishing in a time of 1:40.99. Perecinsky (1:43.04), Will Bansberg (1:47.10) and Krys Gorski (1:47.43) finished third, fourth and fifth. Jahn and Perecinsky’s times are NCAA B cuts.

Ohio State’s Jankovics picked up his second win of the day in the 200 breast, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 1:55.59. Vickers (1:58.66) and Helmuth (1:59.82) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Frost won the 500 free with an NCAA B standard time of 4:21.04. Edmund finished second with a time of 4:25.03.

Klinge was the winner of the 100 fly with a time of 45.81, which is an NCAA B cut.
Read also won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 352.43.

The Buckeyes were exhibition swimmers for the remainder of the meet. Metzler had the top time for Ohio State in the 400 IM (3:46.06) and the team of Jahn, Baltes, Klinge and Navikonis had the top time in the 400 free relay (2:53.20).

Pitt’s Krzysztof Radziszewski won the 100 back in 47.63.
