Nebraska Women Victorious at Hawkeye Invitational

The University of Nebraska claimed victory at the 2024 Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City on Friday, Nov. 21.

The Cornhuskers scored 1,281.5 points to hold off Washington State (1,263.5). Iowa was third (1,059), followed by Illinois (934), Kansas (928), Miami (743), UConn (725), Iowa State (703) and Northern Iowa (314).

Women’s 1650 Free

Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson started the final night strong with a win in the 1650 free – in a meet-record 16:00.61.

Washington State’s Lauren Wille was second in 16:37.93, followed by Kansas‘ Ivy Solt (16:39.54), Washington State’s Tatum Janning (16:40.21), Nebraska’s Riley Miklos (16:40.88), Nebraska’s Alaira Hadford (16:42.01), Illinois’ Liv Dorshorst (16:44.87) and UConn’s Norah Rome (16:48.13).

Women’s 200 Backstroke

Washington State’s Jade Castro used a quick middle 100 to win the 200 backstroke in 1:55.66.

Nebraska’s Virginia Consiglio took second in 1:56.65, followed by Kansas’ Bradie Ward (1:57.47), Miami’s Phoebe Mayo (1:57.74), UConn’s Bella Hoffman (1:57.82), Washington State’s Anna Rauchhols (1:58.37), Miami’s Sara Sensebrenner (1:59.07) and UConn’s Zoey Griffin (2:02.11).

Women’s 100 Freestyle

Washington State’s Darcy Revitt won the 100 freestyle in a meet-record 47.64, giving the Cougars two wins in a row.

Nebraska’s Beatrix Tanko was second in 48.75, followed by Washington State’s Barbora Mileisyte (49.34), Iowa’s Payton Flowers (49.41), Jenna Kerr (49.87) and Rachel Dildine (49.95), UConn’s Jessica Sheng (50.04) and Nebraska’s Riley Miklos (51.82), in her second of a Friday-night double.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke

Washington State’s Emily Lundgren continued her strong meet by sweeping the breaststroke events. After winning the 100 on Thursday, she won the 200 in 2:08.32 on Friday.

She went 1-2 with teammate Ashlyn Hernandez (2:12.45).

UConn’s Sydney Perkins was third in 2:12.60, followed by Illinois’ Sara Jass (2:12.90), Iowa’s Olivia Swalley (2:14.05), Iowa State’s Anja Peck (2:14.18), Nebraska’s Katy Zboinski (2:15.06) and Iowa State’s Grace Swoboda (2:16.19).

Women’s 200 Butterfly

Nebraska’s Aurora Zanin turned in a big swim for the Cornhuskers as they pulled away in the meet. Zanin won the 200 fly in 1:59.34.

Miami’s Savannah Barr finished second in 1:58.47, followed by Nebraska’s Jazmyn Lynn (2:00.36), Kansas’ Sammy Cummins (2:01.14) and Maya Lambert (2:01.25), Miami’s Carly Lahr (2:01.36) and Evelyn Meggesto (2:02.01) and Washington State’s Mehlika Yalcin (2:05.04).

Women’s Platform Diving

Iowa’s Geneva Pauly won platform diving with a score of 280.55, leading a 1-3 finish with Stephane Avram (240.85).

Second place went to Nebraska’s Kelsey Clairmont with 267.80 points.

Iowa State’s Katherine Mitchell finished fourth (236.65), followed by Illinois’ Bethany Mercer (235.45), Nebraska’s Frances Webb (234.10), Iowa State’s Jade Hazes (218.85) and Iowa’s Zita Bernatsky (207.75).

Women’s 400 Free Relay

Washington State’s Lauren Wille, Emily Lundgren, Barbora Mileisyte and Darcey Revitt won the 400 free relay in 3:16.35 to win the final event of the meet.

Nebraska’s Beatrix Tanko, Giulia Marchi, Riley Miklos and Gena Jorgenson took second in 3:18.35.

Miami’s Savannah Barr, Isabelle Videment, Ines Mahmoudi and Brooke Murphy were third in 3:18.58.

Fourth went to host Iowa as Payton Flowers, Rachel Dildine, Ella Jean Kelly and Jenna Kerr finished in 3:18.82 to break the school record.
