Mustangs Blast Competition at the North Texas Relays
The North Texas Mean Green hosted their second annual North Texas Relays last night. Competition on the women’s side included North Texas, Southern Methodist University Mustangs, the University of Houston Cougars, and the University of Arkansas. Although North Texas only has a women’s team they opened up the competition to the SMU men’s team, as well as the men’s team from Oklahoma Baptist University.
The Mustang women finished first in eight of the ten events of the meet, commanding the lead from the very start of the meet. The only two events not won by the Mustangs, the 300-yard backstroke relay (2:52.82) and 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:18.97), were won by North Texas.
The Mustang men claimed first-place finishes in seven out of ten of the events, while the Bison were able to snag wins in the 300-yard breaststroke relay (2:57.13), 400-yard medley relay (3:30.03), and 4×100 Individual Medley relay (3:35.93).
Despite not winning any of the events the Cougars had enough top eight finishes to finish third overall in the meet. The Little Rock Trojans rounded out the group earning fourth place.
North Texas returns to competition October 10 when they host the Incarnate Word and Liberty in a double-dual meet. The Lady Mustangs will host the SMU Classic from October 16-17, while the Trojans will be hosting a double-dual meet with St. Louis and Henderson State.
