Morgan Ray, Morgan Stickney Win at Para Swimming World Series

Morgan Ray and Morgan Stickney were among the winners on Day 2 of Para Swimming World Series stop in Indianapolis Friday night.

Stickney won the women’s 400 freestyle in 4:55.58, the S7 swimmer scoring highest among the multi-class field on time standard points in the  meet at the IU Natatorium. Australian Lakeisha Patterson finished second, with American S7 Ahalya Lettenberger third.

Ray finished first in the men’s 100 breast. The SB6 swimmer’s time of 1:22.05 came out on top, ahead of American SB9 Aiden Stivers. Ricky Betar bested fellow Australian SB14 swimmer Darren Sisman by two seconds for third place. American teen Koehn Boyd (S10) finished fifth after having come third in the 400 free.

Ray wrapped up the night by anchoring a winning American mixed medley relay 34 points. In the S14 mixed 400 free relay, Betar and Sisman helped Australia to a win, joining Kael Thompson and Ruby Storm.

After setting three world records and recording two wins on Thursday’s opening night of the meet, Leanne Smith prevailed in the women’s 50 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.93.

Olivia Chambers won the women’s 100 breast in 1:18.24. The S13 swimmer also finished sixth in the 400 free. Chambers was followed in the 100 breast by Storm and Ali Diehl of Canada. American Ellie Marks was sixth, with Lettenberger ninth.

Brazilian Gabriel Araujo picked up a third win of the meet, the S2 swimmer going 55.27 in the 50 breast. Italy’s Simone Barlaam, a four-time Paralympic gold medalist, won the men’s 400 free, the S9 swimmer clocking in at 4:18.35. Second was Talisson Glock of Brazil, the S6 swimmer going 5:07.64.

Jessica Long, the 17-time Paralympic gold medalist, was in the water Friday night. She finished 10th in the 400 free in 5:15.66.  Elizabeth Smith was 11th in the 100 breast.
