Minnesota Associate Head Coach Stacy Busack to Leave Program

Stacy Busack, the associate head coach of the University of Minnesota’s women’s team, is moving on from the program.

The school made the announcement on Monday.

“I’m going to miss Stacy, and this program will miss her,” Director of Swimming and Diving Kelly Kremer said in a team press release. “I want to thank her for all she’s done for our program. As a swimmer, coach, and alum, Stacy has left a legacy here! I wish her all the best in this new chapter for her and her husband Dave.”

Busack was named an associate head coach in June 2021. She was promoted to head women’s coach in June 2023, working primarily with the women’s sprint group.

“I’m so fortunate to have had this opportunity to coach at my alma mater and am beyond grateful for my time in this role,” Busack said. “My dream school as a student-athlete turned into and remains my dream job. I’m proud of this group and what we have built. I wish it was possible to be in two places at once to continue with this amazing staff and team.

“Ultimately, this is a personal decision. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and life partner and the opportunity he is pursuing is taking us back to the city where we met. It is important for me to be with and support Dave in the same way he has supported me by following my career around the country. I don’t think of my role with the program as ending, it is changing. I will continue to want the best for this program and the people in it, contribute to the cause in ways outside of directly leading, and enjoy being a part of this team’s journey in a different way moving forward.”

Busack swam at Minnesota from 2005-09, earning 13 All-American honors and four individual Big Ten titles. She was part of the 2008 Big Ten team title. The sprinter swam at U.S. Olympic Trials in 2008. A 2015 Minnesota Aquatic Center Hall of Famer, she set 14 program records for the Golden Gophers.
