Meghan and Caeleb Dressel Announce Birth of Second Child, Josie Eloise Dressel

Nine-time Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel and his wife Meghan welcomed their second child early Monday morning. Their daughter Josie Eloise Dressel was born just 16 months after her older brother, August Wilder Dressel.

The couple shared an Instagram post showing the details of the birth and photos of their daughter. One image showed the two Dressel children meeting for the first time in the hospital. Meghan wrote in the Instagram post:

“While it was far from the birth story we thought it’d be, our hearts are overflowing with joy and gratitude that we are all safe, healthy and here. We could not be more in love with our baby girl and are relishing in the sweetness of being home together as a family and having her in our arms.

“Josie Eloise, you have changed and wrecked and made our hearts new. Your brother taught us how deep we could love, and you have taught us how hard and how wide. Welcome to the world baby girl. This crazy family has got you always, and we can’t wait to love you so fiercely forever🩷

“We also wanted to take a moment to say a special thank you to our team of providers at Shands Hospital who went above and beyond the call of duty fighting for us and with us through every unexpected curveball. If any of you are reading this, we can never say thank you enough for all you did for our family🤍”

Caeleb Dressel last competed at USA Swimming’s Pro Series in Fort Lauderdale in early May, where he swam in the finals of the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, but he did not compete at U.S. Nationals and aim for a spot on the World Championships team. Dressel has indicated that he plans to continue his career in future years, likely with Meghan and both children watching.

At last year’s Paris Olympics, Dressel won a pair of gold medals, anchoring the U.S. men’s 400 free relay to the top of the podium while racing in the prelims for the U.S. mixed 400 medley relay, and he also helped the U.S. men to medley relay silver with a strong butterfly leg. However, Dressel struggled in his individual races, falling to sixth in the 50 free and missing the 100 fly final.
