Lehigh University Men’s Program Suspended for Hazing Allegations; Investigation Underway
Lehigh University has suspended all activities related to its men’s swimming and diving program due to hazing allegations, according to a report by SwimSwam. The suspension took effect on September 15 and the university is conducting an investigation of the program. Lehigh is scheduled to start the season on Oct. 2 with its annual Brown & White Meet, an intrasquad competition. On Oct. 10, the Mountain Hawks are scheduled to compete against Loyola.
“Acts of hazing are antithetical to the values of our community. Lehigh University is committed to working across campus to foster a culture that supports an inclusive, safe, and healthy community for student-athletes, as well as the whole Lehigh community,” Lehigh University said in a statement to SwimSwam.
In 2020, the school’s swimming program received a disciplinary warning for hazing, as members of the team were forced to take part in early-morning punishment swims for violating team rules. According to documentation from the university, all team members were required to participate in an educational program related to hazing and team accountability.
