Kwok of LIU Post Broke METS 100 Butterfly Record

The Metropolitan Conference Championships day two finals were swam this evening. The men’s and women’s 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay were swam. The women’s 200 medley relay and 100 butterfly METS records were broken.

Women’s Meet

LIU Post won the 200 medley relay going a 1:41.49 with their team of Seren Jones (25.67), Caitlin Johnstone (29.29), Joyce Kwok (23.84) and Meghan Brazier (22.69). With this time they also broke the previous METS record of 1:42.22. Bridgeport’s team of Yekaterina Gakhokidze (25.42), Jaimy Taskin (30.03), Nina Stegu (24.91) and Tatiana Shepel (22.65) went a 1:43.01 for second place. Ramapo College of NJ came third place (1:48.03) with the team of Danielle Bach (27.63), Brenda Arthur (30.46), Meghan Trewhella (26.83) and Maggie Herbert (23.11).

In the 400 IM, Karis Fuller of LIU Post took the gold with a 4:31.17. Bridgeport’s Claudia Esteban finished in second place (4:34.30)) and her teammate Annagrazia Bonsanti touched the wall with a 3:39.17 for the bronze.

Kwok of LIU Post went a 53.32 to win the women’s 100 butterfly. With this time she also broke the previous METS record of 53.51. Bridgeport’s Gakhokidze came in second place with a 56.52 and with a 57.15 Laura Bendfeldt of LIU Post came in third place.

LIU Post’s Brazier won the women’s 200 free tonight with a 1:51.16. Bridgeport’s Alja Tavcar came in for silver with a 1:53.53 and Eline Swensen of LIU Post came in third place (1:54.45).

Johnstone of LIU Post went a 1:05.26 to take gold in the 100 breast. Mt. Saint Mary’s Marissa Catania placed second with a 1:06.81 and and William Patterson’s  Vera Blazevska came in third place touching in at a 1:06.98.

In the 100 back, Gakhokidze of Bridgeport won the event tonight with a 55.15. LIU Post’s Jones finished in second place going a 55.21 and US Merchant Marine Academy’s Tyler Wickesberg took the bronze going a 57.63.

Bridgeport won the 800 free relay. The team of Bonsanti (1:53.56), Clara Mico Gonzalez (1:56.32), Esteban (1:55.63) and Tavcar (1:53.73) went a 7:39.24 for the gold. LIU Post came in second (7:43.22) with Swensen (1:55.56), Johnstone (1:56.99), Bendfeldt (1:54.10) and Karis Fuller (1:56.57).  Southern Connecticut came in third place with the time of 7:54.54 and the team of Katie Crochet (2:00.38), Sydney Fromkin (1:57.89), Jennifer Belanger (1:58.29) and Emily Wolfe (1:57.98).

Men’s Meet

Bridgeport won the men’s 200 medley relay. Their team of Brian Kelly (22.83), Ivan Capan (24.17), Didac Matsuyama (21.68) and Will Du Plessis (20.28) went a 1:28.96 for the gold.The College of New Jersey came in second place (1:29.92) with their team of Dante Colucci (23.42), James Shangle (24.63), Joseph Dunn (21.77) and Ryan Gajdzisz (20.10). Rowan finished in a 1:29.98 for third with the team of Joe Furze (23.98), Mikey Simunek (24.90), Nick Marks (21.62) and Jesse Novak (19.48).

In the men’s 400 IM, Logan Barns from The College of NJ won the event with a 4:02.06. Southern Connecticut’s Louis Geist came in for the silver with a 4:04.62 and Rowan’s Connor Buck went a 4:07.40 for bronze.

Bridgeport’s Didac Matsuyama won the men’s 100 butterfly with a 48.43. In a close second was Nick Marks of Rowan who went a 48.81. Bridgeport’s Brian Kelly came in third place (49.13).

Tyler Vander Vos of Southern Connecticut won the men’s 200 free with a 1:40.31. The College of New Jersey took second and third place on the podium. Scott Vitabile came with a 1:40.31 for silver and Ryan Gajdzisz took bronze with a 1:40.58.

In the 100 breaststroke, Bridgeport’s Capan won the event with a 54.78. Shingle form The College of NJ went a 55.22 for second place and Tyler Coe from Rowan finished third (56.27).

Southern Connecticut’s Raymond Cswerko won the 100 backstroke tonight in the time of 49.30. Bridgeport’s Kelly touched the wall with a 49.50 for second place and his teammate Du Plessis, came in with a close third going a 49.83.

The College of New Jersey won the 800 free relay in the time of 6:45.32 and the squad of Philip Binaco (1:42.95), Gajdzisz (1:40.56), Scott Vitable (1:40.41) and Jason Ivins (1:41.40). Rowan came in second (6:50.01) with Anthony Czar (1:41.91), Nate Wojtowicz (1:42.88), Eric Feuerstein (1:42.88) and Paul Long (1:42.34). The US Merchant Marine Academy finished third (7:05.23) with their team of Logan Propst (1:45.37), Kevin Sweetman (1:49.03), Josh Jepsen (1:45.13) and John Terselic (1:45.70).
