Kira Toussaint, Steffen Deibler Down Meet Records in Italy

BOLZANO, Italy, November 10. A pair of meet records fell during the Bozen International Swim Meet held in Bolzano, Italy. The short course meter meet features a fairly strong international field, including some U.S. based swimmers.

The Netherlands' Kira Toussaint downed the first meet mark of the evening with a 58.25 in the women's 100-yard backstroke. That swim bettered the Dutch age group record of 58.35, and bested Sinead Russell's meet record of 58.96 from last year. Italy's Elena Gemo (59.67) and Laura Letrari (1:01.20) took second and third in the race. Germany's Steffen Deibler later cleared the men's 50 fly record with a 23.33, while Russia's Evgeny Korotyshkin took second in 23.51. The Netherlands' Joeri Verlinden touched third in 23.95.

Spain's Ashwin Wildeboer won the men's 100 back in 52.09, while USA's Adam Mania (52.92) and Nick Thoman (53.30) completed the podium. Italy's Silvia Di Pietro topped the women's 50 fly in 26.90, while Italy's Alice Conte earned second in 27.75. USA's Kim Vandenberg rounded out the top three in 27.77.

SwimMAC's Madison Kennedy opened the evening with a 54.21 to win the women's 100 free, while Italy's Erika Ferraioli touched second in 55.12. Germany's Dorothea Brandt placed third in 56.06. Russia's Andrey Arbuzov claimed the men's 100 free in 48.86 with Italy's Federico Bocchia touching second in 49.16. Russia's Andrey Grechin earned third in 49.43.

Denmark's Rikke Moller Pedersen earned the women's 50 breast title in 31.37 with Germany's Dorothea Brandt claiming second in 31.59. Italy's Lisa Fissneider rounded out the top three in 31.69. Italy's Fabio Scozzoli clinched the men's 50 breast in 27.28, while teammate Alessandro Terrin took second in 27.59. Russia's Stanislav Lakhtyukov earned third in 27.69.

Letrari returned later with a 1:01.96 to win the women's 100 IM, while Pedersen took second in 1:02.74. Italy's Camilla Dal Rio clinched third in 1:03.73. Korotyshkin topped the men's 100 IM in 54.52, with Scozzoli touching just behind with a 54.53. Mania finished third in 55.00.
