Katie Ledecky Highlights Final Day of 2015 Nations Capital Invitational

Katie Ledecky of Nations Capital threw down a record shattering 8:59.65 in the 1,000-yard free to kick off the fourth and final day of the 2015 Nations Capital Invitational held at the University of Maryland.

Matthew Hirschberger of NCAP cruised to first in the boys open 1,000-yard free stopping the clock at 9:01.31. Teammate Andrew Gemmell finished close behind with a time of 9:01.59.

Allie Szekely of CBST delivered a sizzling 1:54.95 to edge out the competition in the girls open 200-yard backstroke. SSC’s Alex Sumner finished second overall in the event with a time of 1:56.09, barely edging out NCAP’s Anna Belousova who touched with a 1:56.11.

CPAC’s John Montesi finished first in the boys open 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:46.92. NCAP’s Christopher Murphy took second overall with a final time of 1:47.88, while Tyler Kim of EST was third with a 1:48.55.

Ledecky was back at it in the girls open 100-yard free turning in a final time of 48.28 to win the event. Teammate Morgan Hill finished one second behind with a 49.36, and CBST’s Morgan Scott finished third overall with a 50.33.

Eric Knight of MAC posted a final time of 43.86 to finish first in the boys open 100-yard free. Vince Regent (44.71) of NCAP and James Murphy (44.94) of MACH kept it close finishing second and third respectively.

It was a battle to the finish in the girls open 200-yard IM between Belousova and Szekely. Despite leading throughout the beginning half of the race Szekely slipped behind Belousova in the breaststroke leg. Belousova stopped the clock at 1:58.71, a slim .07 seconds ahead of Szekely’s 1:58.78.

Hugh Anderson of MACH and Reese Whitley of PCAC kept a tight race in the boys open 200-yard IM finishing a .16 seconds apart. Despite a swift comeback in the breaststroke leg from Whitley, Anderson got his hand to the wall first stopping the clock at 1:47.79. Whitley finished second with a 1:47.95.

13-14 Year Old Winners:

  • Katie Mack–NCAP, girls 200-yard Back (1:58.30); girls 100-yard Free (49.91); girls 200-yard IM (2:02.53)
  • Sean Conway–NCAP, boys 200-yard Back (1:52.55); boys 200-yard IM (1:55.75)

11-12 Year Old Winners:

  • Meghan Lynch–DOLPHINS, girls 100-yard IM (59.22); girls 200-yard Free (1:53.63)
  • Brett Feyerick–NCAP, boys 100-yard IM (55.37); boys 200-yard Free (1:47.99)
  • Joy Jiang–WEST, girls 100-yard Fly (56.81)
  • Tyler Sicignano–CPAC, boys 100-yard Fly (58.87)
