Joao Gomes Jr. Cracks Top 10 in 50 Breast at 2015 World Military Games

Brazil’s Joao Gomes Jr. vaulted into the top 10 in the world in the men’s 50-meter breast at the 2015 World Military Games.

Gomes Jr. threw down a sizzling time of 27.14 to move to seventh in the world rankings, breaking the meet record of 27.25 set by Roman Sludnov back in 2001. Germany’s Hendrik Feldwehr placed second in 27.87 with Italy’s Andrea Toniato taking third in 28.19.

China’s Zhang Yuhan set her third meet record of the competition with a 4:06.70 in the women’s 400-meter free. That swim eclipsed the 4:11.60 set by Martina de Memme back in 2011. De Memme took second tonight in 4:12.38 with Brazil’s Manuella Lyrio finishing third in 4:12.52.

Ukraine’s Mariia Liver downed the meet record in the women’s 50-meter breast with a 31.06. That time smashed the 31.30 set by Dorothea Brandt back in 2014. China’s Suo Ran took second in 31.30 with Russia’s Vera Kalashnikova placing third in 32.42.

Brazil’s Henrique Martins claimed the men’s 100-meter fly in 52.71, just half-a-second back of Evgeny Koptelov’s 2014 meet record of 52.37. Italy’s Piero Codia took second in 52.91 with Ukraine’s Oleksii Ivanov snaring third in 53.14.

China’s Qiao Zhongyi won the men’s 400-meter free in 3:52.65 with teammate Zu Lijun claiming second in 3:53.21. Poland’s Kacper Klich picked up third in 3:53.94.

Germany’s Christian Diener topped the men’s 200-meter back in 2:00.34 with Russia’s Nikita Babchenko taking second in 2:01.07. Brazil’s Leonardo Gomes finished third in 2:01.13.

Russia’s Svetlana Chimrova took home the women’s 100-meter fly in 58.67 with Poland’s Anna Dowgiert finishing second in 1:00.13. China’s Gong Jie wound up third in 1:00.28.

Russia’s Alexandra Papusha turned in a 2:15.91 to win the women’s 200-meter back. Brazil’s Natalia de Luccas finished second in 2:16.27 with Vietnam’s Vien Nguyen claiming third in 2:17.40.

Brazil’s Nicolas Oliveira, Henrique Martins, Nicholas dos Santos and Joao Lucca won the men’s 400-meter free relay in 3:18.56.

China’s Zhu Yingying, Suo Ran, Zhang Yuhan and Liu Yiru claimed the women’s 400-meter free relay title in 3:43.25.

Russia’s Nikita Konovalov, Oleg Kostin, Svetlana Chimrova and Viktoriia Andreeva topped the mixed 400-meter medley relay in 3:52.13.
