Iowa Women’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Illinois, Nebraska

A unique Big Ten women’s meet this weekend featured teams from Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska, with the swimming events taking place in Champaign, Ill., while diving was in Iowa City, Iowa. Overall, the Hawkeyes were victorious with scores of 193-179 over Illinois and 216-156 over Nebraska while Nebraska beat Illinois 195-178.

Iowa’s first victory came in the 400 freestyle relay, with the team of Payton FlowersAudrey OlenRachel Dildine and Jenna Kerr winning by more than a second in 3:25.53. Kerr added an individual win in the 200 free (1:51.01), with Flowers taking command of the 50 free (23.00) and 100 free (50.94).

Iowa’s Lainey Woodward won both springboard diving events, with scores of 318.65 on 3-meter and 312.05 on 1-meter. The team of Flowers, Dildine, Olen and Ella Jean Kelly came in first in the 200 free relay to conclude racing, posting a time of 1:33.50.

Nebraska’s Gena Jorgenson was the winner of the 1000 free in 9:55.77, and she later topped the 200 back (2:02.84) and 500 free (4:58.04). Aurora Zanin placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:04.82) while Beatrix Tanko was the winner of the 100-yard event by two hundredths over Diner, 54.84 to 54.86. Nebraska’s Kelsey Clairmont took first in platform diving (259.00).

The Illinois team of Sophia Paduano, Kayla DuranSophia Yousuf and Maggie Adler topped the 400 medley relay in 3:46.20, four tenths ahead of the top team from Iowa. Illinois’ Chloe Diner topped the 100 IM in 55.80, and she joined Paduano, Duran and Isabella Wilhelm on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:43.42).

Paduano topped the 100 back in 57.24 while Diner won again in the 100 breast (1:03.10) and 200 IM (2:01.79). Sara Jass came home first in the 200 breast (2:18.86).
