How Many Super-Suit Marks Remain in the All-Time Top-25s? (Women’s Edition)
A scan of the all-time women’s event rankings reveals a collection of times that were produced during the sport’s super-suit era, which unfolded from 2008-09. The most notable performance from that stretch is undoubtedly the world record in the 200-meter butterfly, a 2:01.81 from China’s Liu Zige. That mark is under threat, however, as Canadian star Summer McIntosh gave it a nudge last year with a swim of 2:01.99.
When analyzing the all-time top-25 performances and performers in women’s competition, it is interesting to note that there are only 25 performances still standing from the super-suit days, a number that is less than half of the men’s total, which sits at 51. More, of the 25 women’s marks still in the top-25, 10 come from the 200 butterfly. The numbers are more in sync when comparing performers, with 55 women remaining ranked, as opposed to 67 men.
