Gianna Spremullo Breaks Three of Six Pool Records at SW Fall Classic

On the second day of the Swimming World Fall Classic, six Roger Williams University pool records went down, with Gianna Spremullo leading the way.

Spremullo set records in the 200 IM (2:05.00), 100 fly (56.75) and 100 back (56.61). In the 200 IM, she broke a record that had belonged to Olympian and former Bluefish Swim Club teammate Elizabeth Beisel. Spremullo also broke Beisel’s pool record in the 200 back last year (2:03.57) and will go after that mark again Sunday.

Spremullo’s Bluefish teammate Harry Homans took down pool records in both the men’s 200 IM (1:50.34) and 100 back (50.11), and he also won the 100 fly in 50.10.

The other pool record broken actually went down in prelims when Aaron Zhu broke Jarrett Jones’ mark in the 200 breast with a 2:07.43. Zhu then won the event in finals at 2:07.81.

In the first event of the evening, Solo Aquatics’ Abbie Sullivan edged out Bluefish’s Summer Smith to win the women’s 500 free, 5:01.80 to 5:02.16. The two dueled the entire way before Sullivan had just enough to get to the wall on the final 25.

Weymouth Club Waves’ Dean Spicer won the men’s 500 free in 4:50.13, while Solo’s Jared Zhang won the men’s 50 free in 22.16.

In other women’s racing, Liz Williams from Solo won the 50 free in 24.29, and Bluefish’s Ella Smith dominated the 200 breast, winning in 2:22.90.

In the 11-12 boys’ age group, Bluefish’s James Misto won three events: the 50 free (24.36), 100 fly (59.44) and 100 back (59.70). Teammate Matthew Walden won the 11-12 boys’ 200 IM in 2:20.89, and Weymouth Club Waves’ Tom Kiesewetter won the 11-12 boys’ 200 breast in 2:24.08.

Bluefish’s Debbie Wells won both the 11-12 girls’ 200 IM (2:24.94) and 100 back (1:03.85), and teammates Olivia Sheng (100 fly, 1:04.01) and Mya Faulkner (200 breast, 2:43.02) also picked up wins in that age group. Infinity’s Gwen Balboni won the 11-12 girls’ 200 IM in 2:24.94.
