Gabrielle Rose, 47, Scheduled to Race at TYR Pro Series Stop in Fort Lauderdale

Last summer, the United States Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis offered a bevy of storylines. Of course, Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris was chosen. There were world-record performances. Chris Guiliano became the first American man to qualify for the Games in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle since 1988.

And Gabrielle Rose, at 46 years old, showed that she could still race with the younger crowd. She’s ready for another go this week, when she races at the TYR Pro Series in Fort Lauderdale.

Rose is entered on the psych sheets in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke and will race against the likes of Lilly King, Kate Douglass and Alex Walsh. Now 47 years old, the fact that Rose is seeded 11th in the shorter distance and 12th in the longer races is a tribute to her talent and longevity. Rose is entered in Pro Series action with times of 31.92 (50 breaststroke), 1:08.32 (100 breaststroke) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.13), all of which are Masters world records for the 45-49 age group.

A two-time Olympian, in 1996 for Brazil and in 2000 for the United States, Rose clocked her 1:08.32 and 2:30.13 performances during the Olympic Trials in Indy. Her record in the 50 breaststroke was recorded two months earlier. At Trials, Rose advanced to the semifinals of the 100 breast and 200 breast.
